Corset’s History

Contrary to what one may think, the first corsets may not have been quite uncomfortable. Models recreated with historical loyalty are used as costumes for theater, cinema and renaissance fairs, and there are people who affirm that they are more comfortable than a modern bra with rims. There is no great pressure in the waist, like in a Victorian corset, and no tension on the shoulders (even in the models with straps), like there is in a bra, and some women with problems in the back affirm that the support is still better than the one of an orthopedic sash.

The corset didn’t change so much between the renaissance and the rococo style; the waist was lowered a little, with incisions of some inches allowing it to follow the curve of the hip and offering greater comfort; the straps became more common and the bust lower, outlining rounder forms.
